Consider a noisy channel, which has a bandwidth of 400KHz and theoretical channel capacity of 4.01Mbps (according to Shannon Capacity formula).
 
 
a.     Calculate the Signal Power received at the receiver end if the Noise Power is .001 Watt.
b.     Also calculate the signal to noise ratio of the channel in dB (SNRdB).
 
      Provide your answer in correct units with full calculation.

A signal of power 6 mW is transmitted through a cable. If the signal encounters a loss of 6db due to impairments of the transmission medium. Calculate the power received at the receiver end.

                                     Relative signal strength before and after power loss with unit

C=B log2(1+S/N) in bps

Answer:
p1=6mW dB=6db p2=?
we know that
dB=10 log10(p2/p1) put all values and get result
now relative streangth before is (Amplified)and after is also (Amplified)

Dear As its Loss of power in Question 2. is't it attenuation. and attenuation always measured in -ve. so it would be -6db while calculating.

How to calculate power of signal in question 1? only Bandwidth and noise power is given. Shannon capacity formula is for calculating channel capacity.

yes you are right in Question no 2.its loss of energy -6db.

Answer:
C=B log2(1+S/N) in bps
4.01 Mbps = 400KHZ log2(1+S/0.001) in bps

dB=10 log10 (p2/p1)
-6db=10 log10 (p2/6mW)
